“Rudolf Franz Erwein, Count of Schönborn-Wiesentheid – an 18th-century music enthusiast and his remarkable music collection”
Students and Baroque Orchestra of the Collegium Musicum Schloss Pommersfelden
Musical Director: Aleksei Dambrouski
Presented by: Dorian Keilhack and Peter Stingel
Rudolf Franz Erwein von Schönborn (1677–1754) was a passionate music lover and accomplished amateur cellist. During his travels throughout Europe, the nephew of Lothar Franz von Schönborn, who commissioned Schloss Pommersfelden, established close contacts with musicians and composers and assembled an exceptional collection of music, which includes numerous unique surviving works.
This evening’s programme presents concerti grossi and solo concertos from the collection by Arcangelo Corelli, Giovanni Benedetto Platti, Anton Reichenauer and Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello. Among them are two virtuosic cello concertos, vividly reflecting the Count’s particular affinity for his instrument.
A fascinating glimpse into the musical world of the Baroque, spanning Franconia, Bohemia and Italy.
